Senior Release / CI Engineer

Boris FX is seeking a Senior Release / CI Engineer to own and evolve the build, continuous integration, and release infrastructure behind our desktop products.

Boris FX software is used by artists and studios worldwide in film, television, streaming media, and content creation. Products such as Sapphire, Continuum, Mocha Pro, and Silhouette, together with the recently acquired iZotope audio suite (including RX, Ozone, and Neutron), ship as plug-ins and standalone applications across Windows, macOS, and Linux, and as integrations for host applications including Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve, Autodesk Flame, Foundry Nuke, digital audio workstations, and the broader OFX ecosystem.

Behind every one of those releases is a build and release pipeline responsible for compiling, code signing, packaging, testing, and publishing installers reliably across many operating systems, host versions, and GPU configurations. This role owns that pipeline end to end.

You will serve as the primary technical owner of the systems that turn source code into signed, tested, shippable Boris FX products. This role sits at the intersection of build engineering, CI/CD automation, and release operations, and offers significant ownership over infrastructure that every engineering team and every customer ultimately depends on.

What You’ll Own

The build and release platform responsible for:

  • Cross-platform builds for Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • Continuous integration and automated testing across products and host versions
  • Code signing, notarization, and installer packaging for all shipping products
  • Release automation, versioning, and publishing of installers to distribution channels
  • The build infrastructure, agents, and virtualized build environments that support these workflows

Your work directly determines how quickly and reliably Boris FX can ship products to customers, and how confident engineering teams can be in every release.

Responsibilities

Build and CI Infrastructure

  • Own the architecture, reliability, and performance of the Boris FX build and CI systems.
  • Maintain and modernize cross-platform build pipelines spanning Windows, macOS, and Linux.
  • Manage the build agents and virtualized build environments, including OS provisioning, toolchain installation, and capacity.
  • Reduce build times and improve caching, parallelization, and reproducibility across products.

Release Engineering and Automation

  • Own the end-to-end release process, from source tag to published, signed installers.
  • Own the creation, maintenance, and management of product installers across all platforms and shipping products.
  • Automate code signing, macOS notarization, and installer packaging as part of every build.
  • Maintain versioning, tagging, and branching strategies that support parallel product releases.
  • Automate the publishing of installers and release notes to internal and customer-facing channels.

Test Automation and Quality Gates

  • Build and maintain automated test and validation stages within CI, including installer verification across supported OS versions and host applications.
  • Support compatibility testing across host versions and GPU configurations (CUDA, Metal, OpenCL).
  • Partner with QA and product engineering to catch regressions before they reach customers.

Toolchain and Dependency Management

  • Own compilers, SDKs, third-party dependencies, and host application SDKs used in the build.
  • Coordinate toolchain and OS upgrades with minimal disruption to shipping schedules.
  • Maintain clear documentation of the build system, release process, and environment setup.

Operational Reliability

  • Monitor build and release health, and respond quickly to broken builds or blocked releases.
  • Troubleshoot complex, cross-platform build and packaging failures.
  • Serve as the go-to partner for engineering teams during release cycles and critical fixes.

Qualifications

Required

  • Strong experience owning and operating CI/CD systems (for example Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, TeamCity, or Buildbot) in a production setting.
  • Deep familiarity with cross-platform native build systems and toolchains (CMake, MSBuild, Xcode / clang, GCC).
  • Hands-on experience with code signing and macOS notarization, and with building platform installers (Windows MSI/EXE, macOS pkg/dmg, Linux packages).
  • Proficiency with scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar).
  • Experience managing build infrastructure, including virtualized build environments and build agents.
  • Strong understanding of version control workflows (Git) and branching strategies for parallel releases.
  • Experience diagnosing and resolving complex build, packaging, and dependency issues across operating systems.

Preferred

  • Experience building or releasing desktop applications or plug-ins, especially in media, VFX, or creative software.
  • Familiarity with host application plug-in ecosystems (Adobe, Avid, OFX hosts such as Resolve, Nuke, and Flame).
  • Experience with GPU-dependent builds and testing (CUDA, Metal, OpenCL).
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and cloud build resources.
  • Experience introducing test automation and quality gates into a release pipeline.

Technical Environment

  • Cross-platform builds targeting Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • CI/CD orchestration driving compilation, signing, packaging, and testing
  • Virtualized and physical build environments across multiple operating systems
  • Code signing and notarization for shipping products
  • Installer packaging and publishing for products including Sapphire, Continuum, Mocha Pro, and Silhouette

Why This Role Is Interesting

  • Own the pipeline that ships products used by artists and studios worldwide.
  • Modernize build and release infrastructure that touches every engineering team at Boris FX.
  • Solve real cross-platform engineering problems across Windows, macOS, and Linux, and across many host applications.
  • Have significant ownership and autonomy in a small, highly impactful team.
  • Directly improve how fast and how confidently Boris FX can deliver new products and updates.
